On Monday, the Red Raiders headed to Hayward in their second game of the year.  After driving up in the rain, the rain stopped about 10 miles from Hayward and we were able to get the game in with minimal rain.

The Red Raiders got on the score board in the top of the first as two runs scored on wild pitches.  Lauren Sturzl had a nice hit in the inning.

Karlie was in a pretty good zone and gave up one hit in her 4 innings of pitching.  It was good to see Karlie pitch a great game in her second game of the season. Our new pitching and catcher combination is doing a great job to start the year. Kara Graves came on to pitch the 5thinning to hold Hayward scoreless on the evening.

The Bruce batters got big innings in the 3rd and 4th innings to break the game open.  Hayward’s pitcher had some control problems and we ran the bases pretty good to take advantage to score runs.  Marina Mansky, Karlie Antczak, had key hits in those innings.  Megan Prorok, Karlie Antczak, and Kayla Hargraves each had two hits.  With the 13-0 win the Red Raiders start the year off with a 2-0 record.

It was good to get some of our younger girls in the game to hit and run the bases.  Everyone is improving and will hopefully enjoy playing softball.

Tomorrow nights game is at the Bruce Park against Drummond.  The boys baseball team will also be playing Drummond.

Still have not found anyone to play Friday.  Hopefully we will.
Game Report from Coach Schmitz
The softball team railed after trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th to win 8-2 over Ashland.
Both teams played decent for the first game of the year. It took the Bruce batters a little time to get on track, but once they did the broke the game open with a 7 run bottom of the 5th. We were patient at the plate in this inning and took advantage of 4 walks and hit batter and then key hit by Megan and then the big hit in the inning a bases loaded rbi triple by Marina. Kellie added an rbi double in the 6th. Karlie pitched a great game taking the complete game win.
